(Week 184) BIG UPDATE: CAN YOU DIG IT GOES 2.5D WEB!

GOING 3D -> 2.5D

Hey Treasure seekers!

Big news: Can You Dig It is officially going 2.5D for the web!
The 3D version isn’t going away—it’s becoming a sequel: Can You Dig It Too!

(If you want to follow along as we build this version, hit "Follow" for update!)

BEFORE

AFTER

WHY THE CHANGE?

It was a tough decision, but 3D was slowing us down. We want gameplay first, and 2.5D lets us build faster and smoother...our inventory system is already miles ahead of where it was in 3D. We loved using Unity but with the limited time, along with our focus on web full time, it felt like the right choice, and given circumstances, we're already pulling ahead in some areas compared to 3D!

The 3D version will return later, stronger than ever, once we bring all the polished mechanics back into it.

WHAT’S NEXT?

  •  Alpha Core  <-- in progress
  • Alpha Progress - playable
  • Alpha Release - polish

ADDITIONALLY

  • The 3D version stays live for now, then moves to its own page as “Too" once the 2.5D version goes live.
  • Regular updates every two weeks until Gold

AT THE MOMENT

This week we focused on inventory improvements ... our new UI is already running smoother than the old 3D build.

Now you can:

  • Select treasure from your backpack
  • Drop items you don’t need
  • Preview your latest finds

Coming soon:

  • Refreshing backpack UI visuals
  • Updated details for player gear
  • Ability to switch gear

Once that’s complete, the core treasure-hunting & managing system will be ready.

Next up: finishing shovel/detector switching -> crafting system!

We’re working in 90-minute weekend sprints...slow but steady wins the race.

WHY NOW?

We finally have a steady weekend schedule. This project has been around for 3 years, but until now, it never had a consistent push.

Our full-time focus is on Calorie Quest (Calorie Quest Link), but this treasure-hunting adventure is our weekend passion project—and we’re committed to finishing it.

THANK YOU

Thanks for sticking with us through the long breaks. Your support and feedback mean the world.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Did we make the right call going 2.5D first?
Any other platforms you think we should share updates on? (We’re keeping things simple for now, focusing on Itch.io.)

Drop your thoughts in the comments...we’d love to hear them!
